SOUTH AFRICA ROCKETS UP THE WORLD RANKING Team SA put in a solid performance at the World Champs

Qindao, China 27 May. South Africa took part in the World Team Championships in China and came up against some very tough opposition. After beating Bulgaria 5-0 in the first match, the team struggled against Vietnam and Sweden and went down 0-5 in each match. All was not lost however as Team SA played Peru in a play-off for the World Team ranking.

Both singles games were lost, leaving the South Africans in a tight spot. True to form, the mens and ladies doubles pairs came through with emphatic wins over the Peruvian opposition. With only the mixed to go and the match drawn at 2-2, the brother and sister combination of Wiaan and Annari Viljoen sealed the victory by beating Rodrigo Pacheco Carillo and  Claudia Rivero Modenes 21-18 and 21-16.

The win pushes South Africa up in the World Team ranking to 25th which is the highest ever in the history of Badminton South Africa! Congratulations to the team and the support staff. We are all very proud of you.
